Mission: Space
replaced Horizons with a new thrill ride to
complement the nearby Test Track. The grand
opening was marked by a special ceremony attended
by Disney CEO Michael Eisner, HP CEO
Carly Fiorina and NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe,
as well as several NASA astronauts representing
the historic space programs of the past decades
(Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, the space shuttle
program and
the International Space
Station).
Mission: Space was originally sponsored by
Compaq, who worked with Disney Imagineers
on the
design. Hewlett-Packard assumed
the sponsorship upon its merger with Compaq
in 2002. |
| Formerly: |
Mission: Space
replaced Horizons, a slow moving presentation
of the future that opened with the rest of
EPCOT on October 1, 1982. |
