(Note: most
of the ratings below such as "Thrill Factor"
and "Speed"
pertain to the intense version of Mission:
Space. The "lighter" version still features
spectacular special effects, but the motion,
speed and thrill factor ratings are significantly
reduced, bringing them back to a level comparable
with or somewhat below other simulator-type
attractions like
Star
Tours. The "lighter" version of Mission:
Space should be able to be experienced by
anyone without fear of motion sickness).

 |
 |
| This is the biggest
thrill ride in Epcot, and arguably
the biggest in all of Walt Disney World
(though fans of the Tower of Terror
may give you an argument about that).
Make no mistake, the g-forces you'll
experience are serious, and it truly
is an experience that's as close
to actual space flight as you
can get. |
|
|
 |
 |
| The sensation of speed
is incredible, and if you think of
the actual speed that's being simulated
(did you ever see a rocket blast off?),
then that makes it by far the fastest
attraction in all of Disney World. |
|
|
 |
 |
| The duration of your
trip is spent in the confines of your
space capsule, with your viewing screen
providing most of the visual effects. |

The sensation of speed
is simulated by spinning (you're actually
in a big centrifuge), but you don't
really feel as if you're spinning-mostly.
If you don't follow the pre-boarding
instructions, however, the spinning
can cause you REAL problems...read
the Touring
Tips for advice on minimizing
the possibilities of motion sickness.
That being said, most people will feel
some degree of queeziness both during
and after the ride. Over all, the preshow
build up and the attraction's reputation
make Mission: Space sound worse than
it actually is—for most people
(there are lots of people who aren't
bothered by it and will ride it repeatedly,
even many people who do have problems
with
motion sickness).
But some people do get very queezy,
so do approach this attraction with
caution (and certainly not with a full
stomach!). |

|
 |
 |
| Mission: Space is one
of the most popular attractions at
Epcot, though as time goes by it seems
to be lagging a bit behind nearby Test
Track
in terms
of crowds (possibly because Test Track,
while thrilling, is a lot more manageable
than the space flight simulation of
Mission: Space). |

| Your flight to Mars

Mission: Space presents guests
with two different experiences of space flight. For those
who have the "right stuff", the "intense" version is incredibly
realistic and is justifiably one of the top thrill rides
in all of Walt Disney World.
If the fear of intense g-forces spooks you, Mission: Space
offers a "lighter" alternative (without the centrifuge),
that gives guests an incredibly realistic simulation of
space flight without the queezy stomach! |
