| Origins: |
Adventureland was
one of the original themed lands created for
Disneyland, and from day one was an integral
part of the Magic Kingdom plans. The concept
was
to provide guests with a romantic
fantasy
of
exotic
exploration.
As a result, Adventureland is the most varied
of all of the Disney "lands", with inspiration
provided by such disparate settings as Polynesia,
Africa, the South Seas and Asia. |

The first major
expansion of the Magic Kingdom occurred in
December of 1973, when the Caribbean Plaza
was added
to Adventureland. In addition to providing
an appropriate home for the Pirates of the
Caribbean attraction, the Caribbean Plaza also
helped to smooth the transition between Adventureland
and the Spanish-influenced styles of the 1850s
American Southwest architecture of Frontierland.
Adventureland's newest attraction, the Magic
Carpets of Aladdin, opened in 2001, created
a new Arabian themed section of Adventureland
complete with an exotic bazaar. |
