Opened:
October 1, 1971 (Original Attraction)
Origins: The Jungle Cruise was conceived by Harper Goff, who was also the art director for the film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Inspiration for the attraction came from the movie The African Queen starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn.

Walt Disney's True-Life Adventures film series also provided much of the inspiration for the Jungle Cruise, as Walt was intent on bringing these natural wonders to life for everyone to enjoy.
Updates: In 1988 the Jungle Boats were redesigned to take on a more rugged appearance.

In 1994 the queue area was revamped to provide more room and shade. Many props were added during this expansion, creating a more exotic jungle feel and giving the Imagineers lots of opportunities to introduce more jokes and visual puns.
