| Origins: |
Fantasyland is
the most "Disney"-esque of all the themed lands,
taking its inspiration from many classic
Disney films including Dumbo, Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Peter
Pan, The
Little Mermaid and many more. Fantasyland
is at the heart of the Magic Kingdom (as
it is in Disneyland), providing a symbolic
cornerstone not only for the park, but for
the entire world of Disney. |
| Updates: |
One of the premiere
opening day Fantasyland attractions was 20,000
Leagues Under the Sea, where guests boarded
submarines reminiscent of the Nautilus from
the classic Disney film for an underwater adventure.
Because of its labor-intensive operation and
maintenance, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea closed
in 1994. This space was then occupied by Ariel's
Grotto and Pooh's Playful
Spot. As of now this entire area is closed as Fantasyland is getting ready for some of the biggest changes that have ever taken place at the Magic Kingdom. You’ll soon be able to share a dance with Cinderella, celebrate Sleeping Beauty’s birthday with the Good Fairies, or join Belle in an enchanting story performance in the Beast’s castle library. You’ll also enjoy a new Dumbo attraction inside a colorful big top. Finally, fans of the animated classic The Little Mermaid can meet Ariel and her friends on an exciting new musical undersea adventure. Construction is under way and should be completed by 2013.
Another original attraction was Mr. Toad's
Wild Ride (an automotive romp to Nowhere in
Particular), which has since given way to the
Many
Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. |
