Space Mountain may be a bit scarier since it's in the dark, but Thunder Mountain is no slouch. While not approaching the speeds or g-forces of some of it's modern day cousins (including the Rock n Roller Coaster at the Disney/MGM Studios), Thunder Mountain is a wild ride filled with tight turns and quick drops. The ride takes you on a serpentine race through mountains and caves, but there are no inversions (e.g., loops or corkscrews)—just good old fashioned speed.
Your runaway train zips around it about 30 mph, but the tight turns and drops make it feel a whole lot faster.
Thunder Mountain takes you on a frantic tour of an abandoned mining town, and the attention to detail is amazing, particularly in the town and in the underground cave. Thunder Mountain takes on a whole different personality at night, it's much eerier and a whole new experience—try it during the day and night if you can.
You're going to get bounced around a lot, especially in the turns where the centrifugal forces are quite intense. If you're riding with a smaller child, you'll want to board first to take the brunt of the turns.
Thunder Mountain is one of the most popular attractions at the Magic Kingdom, and its proximity to Splash Mountain ensures that crowds are usually long all day. Check out Touring Tips for ways to avoid long wait times.
Your runaway train takes about 3 1/2 minutes to find its way back to the station.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a steel track coaster thats lots of fun but not too scary (no flips or loops here). The emphasis here is on fun, not heart stopping thrills. Don't miss it!
