| Origins: |
Liberty Square
was originally conceived of as a new addition
to Disneyland. The area, which was to be called
Liberty Street, was to be added along with
Edison Square next to Main Street. The plan,
which was announced in 1958, never came to
fruition, but the concept was reintroduced
as part of the opening day plans for
the Magic Kingdom.
Part of the reason for its inclusion in the
new park was the upcoming American Bicentennial
in 1976. What better way
to celebrate America's independence! |
