Origins: Main Street was inspired by Walt Disney's childhood home in Marceline, Missouri, and is an idealized representation of the nostalgic charm of yesteryear. The era is the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, when the promise of new technology brought a new vitality to the quaint familiarity of the small town.

Main Street's official description sums it up best: Main Street is "the crossroads of an era; the gas lamp giving way to the electric light, the sputtering 'horseless carriage' challenging Old Dobbin for the streetcar right-of-way".

A well known feature of Main Street is the presence of "office" names displayed on the windows of most of the shops. The names are in fact tributes to the people who helped create the Disney empire, everyone from executives and Imagineers to Walt Disney himself!
