To get a high score, aim for the targets that are far away or in unusual places. Here a few to start with, if you can hit each of these multiple times you have a good chance of getting 999,999!

  • In the first room, look for a target that's hanging over head, in the structure that resembles a street lamp. Each hit is worth 100,000 points! You'll actually have an easier time hitting it once you pass beneath it, spin your ship around to get a good shot!
  • In the next room, look for the volcano on the far wall. Hit it as often as you can.
  • Finally, in the room with all the batteries, aim for the one on the right wall all the way in the back.
 
Having a hard time aiming? The key is being able to pick out your laser from all of the rest (this can be hard to do when aiming for a far away target). When your laser powers up in the first room, shoot at the nearby wall repeatedly and keep your eye on where it hits. As you pass in to the next room, continue to track your laser. As long as you can see the spot where it hits, you'll know it's yours and you'll have an easier time aiming. If you ever lose track of the laser beam, just aim at a nearby target until you find it again.
 
Smile when you enter the last room (the one past the star tunnel), you're about to get your picture taken! You can purchase a copy of your photo at the end of the mission.
 
Even though this is a FastPass attraction, the line moves fairly quickly. You can sometimes take advantage of this situation to experience the attraction twice in a short amount of time. If the wait is less than 20 minutes, obtain a FastPass and then get in the Standby Line. Once you exit the attraction, you shouldn't have long to wait before your FastPass time arrives (if you still have a few minutes to kill, this is a good time to ride the TTA!). Take your FastPass and get right on again!
This strategy will of course work on any FastPass attraction with a short wait time, but it's worth a special mention here since most people can't resist riding Buzz Lightyear more than once (after all, you'll want to see if you can improve your score!).
 
Even though two people can fit in one car, it's usually a better idea to ride separately if you're serious about trying to get a good score (if two if you ride together you might not always agree on how to spin the ship!).
