Monsters Inc. made its
debut in the Spring of 2007, occupying the building
that was the former home of the Timekeeper attraction,
a wrap-around movie presentation that took guests
on
a thrilling journey through time (the show featured
the talents of Robin Williams and Rhea Perlman, as
well as 'cameo' appearances by Jules Verne and H.G.
Wells).
Originally, the theater played host to a show called
Circle-Vision 360, which opened in November 1971.
The technology itself debuted as Circarama in 1955
at Disneyland. Circle-Vision 360 comprised nine images
projected from individual projectors on a wrap
around screen, surrounding guests with a totally
immersive
visual experience. The original film shown was called
America the Beautiful, and showed breathtaking
scenery from around the country. It was replaced
by Magic
Carpet 'Round the World in 1974. The next year
saw the return of a new and improved version of America
the Beautiful which ran until 1979, when Magic
Carpet 'Round the World returned for a five
year run. In 1985, a new film, American Journeys,
made its premiere. The Timekeeper opened in 1994,
adding the impressive Animatronic figures of the
Timekeeper and Nine-Eye to the show. |
