Just three years after
his film debut, the lovable (and mischievous) Stitch
took up residence in Tomorrowland with an attraction
of his very own! Always the troublemaker, Stitch
announced his Magic Kingdom debut with some personal
decorations applied to Cinderella Castle. |
| Formerly: |
The original attraction
to occupy this spot was The Flight to the Moon,
which was one of the opening day attractions in
the Magic Kingdom. Guests sat in a circular theater
and got to experience their own lunar mission,
thanks to moving seats that simulated the rocket
launch and a video screen on the floor in the middle
of the theater acting as a viewport.
By 1975 flights to the moon were no longer science
fiction, and the attraction was updated and renamed
Mission to Mars.
After nearly 20 years, Mission to Mars was closed
to make way for a totally new theater show, one
that would combine the fearsome elements of modern
day sci-fi films like Alien with Animatronic technology
and special effects. The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien
Encounter debuted in 1995 and quickly became quite
popular.
In 2004 Stitch took over Alien Encounter, with
many of the show elements remaining in place. While
the show still features some scary moments of darkness
and intense effects, the addition of Stitch to
Tomorrowland adds a whimsical touch to the Magic
Kingdom's vision of the future. |
