Cirque du Soleil is home
to La Nouba, a circus-like performance
that's unlike
any circus you've ever seen. Acrobats,
gymnasts, and other performers weave a
mystical spectacle of imaginative stunts
and dreamlike
routines that unfold all around you. While
the main action takes place onstage, other
characters can be found wandering throughout
the arena doing seemingly unrelated things.
The show is part fantasy, part dream and
part mystery, all woven together in a series
of jaw-dropping acts that will leave you
dazzled and breathless.
Before the show begins, a pair of clowns
(Balto and Serguei) enter
the arena and set the mood by interacting
with guests and having some mischievous
fun with a few unsuspecting audience members.
Once the
show begins, a parade of characters
and performers makes its way through
the aisles, followed by a
cleaning woman who sweeps the
stage as the characters appear
one
by one (by the end of the performance you'll
learn that she's much more
than a simple maid).
You'll see the Green Bird, who watches
the ariel performances, desperate
to fly.
Les Cons, dressed in all white, are the
ever present fools of the show. They
find themselves in the middle of everything
and often participating in unusual ways.
Le Titan is a mysterious figure; at first,
this muscle man confronts everyone on
stage
while contorting his body in unusual
poses, but he eventually reveals his
secret talent.
The Walker is a Charlie Chaplin-inspired
character who strolls throughout the
show. Like Le Titan, he too has a hidden
talent
that will eventually be revealed.
The Pierrot Rouge (the red
acrobat) is the adversary of
the Titan at the show's outset, but eventually
joins him in mutual admiration at the
end of the show.
The Pierrot Clown and Lost Ballerina
are the Romeo and Juliet of the show,
dancing
and sharing their love, passion and
fears.
Throughout the show you'll be dazzled
by a variety of performances including
high wire acrobatics, daredevil cyclists,
graceful ariel ballet performances,
mesmerizing exhibitions of balance and
agility, breathtaking
trapeze artistry and a truly astonishing
trampoline routine. The music is performed
live by six musicians and two singers
(the soundtrack itself is also available
for purchase).
