Looking for a little night
club excitement? Pleasure Island is an action-packed
complex of themed nightclubs, providing fun-filled
entertainment late into the night.
According to legend, the nightclubs were
once home to a canvas manufacturing and sail
fabrication company founded by Pittsburgh
entrepreneur Merriweather Adam Pleasure in
the late 19th century. After several years
of success Merriweather's sense of adventure
lead him to undertake a series of round the
world voyages in his specially designed yacht,
"Domino". Unfortunately, he, along with his
daughter Merriam and their entire crew vanished
near Antarctica in 1941. Several years later,
a devastating storm, Hurricane Connie, blew
through the
island and left many of the buildings in
shambles.
The island sat in disrepair for many years,
until one day the dilapidated
warehouses were rediscovered and converted
into a variety
of nightclubs. The whole island was then
named in honor of the original owner.
